The Fisher Theatre Bungay - Our New Home
For
many years now the Fisher Youth Theatre Group has been without a home.
In September 2006 the newly refurbished Fisher Theatre
re-opened and we were the first group to perform there. Our junior section
put on a compilation of plays including "Alice In Wonderland"
and "Charlie And The Chocolate Factory". Our senior group
put on our adaptation on Willy Russell's "Our
Day Out". Both shows were complete sellouts. Great for the
new Fisher Theatre.
As
our name would suggest we are a youth theatre group involved with the
Fisher Theatre in Bungay Suffolk. The Fisher
Theatre first opened in 1828. The theatre was one of 13 theatres
designed and built by David Fisher which made up a circuit of theatres
for his company "The Norfolk and Suffolk Company of Comedians".
The
Fisher Theatre was eventually sold by David Fisher
in 1844 and has since been used as a corn hall, steam laundry and cinema
amongst other things.
In 2001 a group of people got together with a similar idea. To ressurect
the Fisher Theatre to its former glory. Through their
endless determination, fundraising and hard work the new Fisher Theatre
is no longer a dream it a reality.
